Kdo je Veles

Veles is one of the most prominent deities in Slavic tradition. He is associated with the earth, water, wealth, herds, magic, and the world that lies beneath the visible one. In later interpretations and reconstructions of Slavic mythology, he is also often linked with the underworld and the realm of the dead. He stands as a force of the earth, depths, and secrets, in contrast to the celestial Perun.

His symbol is often a snake or a dragon, a creature that moves close to the ground and between worlds. While Perun comes from above with thunder and lightning, Veles emerges from roots, water, and dark places beneath our feet. His power is not a sudden strike; it is slow, patient, and hidden.

In the world of Hellrasher, this aspect of Veles is even darker.

Veles dwells in the depths, where light barely reaches. Echoes of the living descend to him from the roots of the world, and beyond the boundaries of his realm begins a place where known rules cease to apply. Whoever speaks his name and seeks him enters a space from which they may not return the same.

His voice is not a roar. It comes quietly—from the water, from the trees, from cracking bark, and from shadows that move where they shouldn't. He resembles a snake: you don't hear him coming until he is too close.

In the song, Veles doesn't just guard the world of the dead. He guards the boundary. The space between what a person knows and what they fear. Anyone who crosses this boundary is forced to shed the certainties they have built about themselves.

That is why human excuses and lies are worthless before Veles. In his realm, one cannot hide behind a name, status, or mask. The darkness gradually takes away everything one has tried to define oneself with, until only what was beneath the surface from the beginning remains.

Water in his story signifies transition. Roots, memory. The snake, transformation. And darkness is not just an enemy—it is a place where truth, which light was able to conceal, is revealed.

Therefore, Veles does not lure those who seek an easy path. His world belongs to those who are willing to descend deep enough to encounter even that which they have run from their entire lives.

In "Legacy of the Gods," Veles is the guardian of the boundary between the world we know and the darkness that knows us.
